TENDER, TENDER, TENDERLY

DAH Theatre’s concert-performance deals with the theme of nostalgia and its influence on the cultural scene of former Yugoslavia. An exploration of the possible existence of a cultural space is undergone, by using the form of a concert filled with the musical heritage of an area that was once a unique cultural space, a space that is not limited by geographical or historical data, but composed of immeasurable experiences of sharing a common fantasy of living in “the best country in the world.” [2011]

The musical heritage of our former country spans from folk music that was passed on orally and that is unfortunately slowly disappearing, to modern music that includes the legendary new wave. On the wave of this music a whole generation was brought up and formed its place in the cultural horizon of our country, inspiring new generations until this very day.

The intention of this performance is to provoke a review of how certain memories are “forbidden” to us, why nostalgia in our parts carries a negative connotation and how to continue cherishing and being proud of our musical tradition, a rare part of our cultural tradition that did not undergo the destruction of nationalism.
