IN/VISIBLE CITY 2007 / 2008

Niš, Leskovac, Vranje, Subotica, Inđija, BEOGRAD

The basic goal of the In/Visible City project is to render visible the multi-ethnic structure of Serbian cities, and the richness of different ethnic cultures. That what exists as a part of our culture for centuries and has recently become hidden, we will rediscover.

DAH seeks to contribute to the normalization of relations between different ethnic communities living in Serbia and towards the development of a society firmly founded on tolerance. The multi-ethnic history of our cities is told to the passengers on the bus, where the performance takes place- on public transport in the chosen locality. The texts of the perfromances were created on the basis of historical research, through both testimonial and documentary material on the demographic and social structure of the cities in which the projects are located.

Exchange and debate with the public on inter-ethnic tolerance are often led through the performance itself. A documentary has been created about the project and the travels of hte DAH Theater Research Center.

Through these activities we remind our fellow citizen-passengers that our culture, history, state and everyday life are interwoven with the influences of different cultures and that the cities in which we live today were created by the work and creativity of citizens who lived there, regardless of ethnicity.
